LAWNMOWERS DIRECT SERVICE UPDATE - IMPORTANT NOTICE
Lawnmowers get a lot of use—especially in the summer months—and sometimes require maintenance and replacement parts to continue to perform as they should.
In this blog post, we provide a step-by-step guide on how to replace a drive belt on a mountfield lawn mower. Read on to find out more.
The drive belt is a vital component of both ride on and regular push lawn mowers. It is responsible for transferring the radial torque of the engine shaft to the input shaft of the transmission, which is what allows the mower to function.
There’s no set time for how long the drive shaft should last, and it could break and need replacement at any time. This part needs replacement due to wear and tear, which means the more you use your mower, the more likely the drive belt will need to be replaced.
Here’s an easy-to-follow guide to replacing the drive belt on your Mountfield mower:
Step 1: Let the engine cool completely
Step 2: Wear gloves when handling the mower to protect your hands
Step 3: Drain the mower of oil and fuel
Step 4: Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug
Step 5: Turn the machine on its side so you can access the underneath of the machine
Step 6: Undo the blade bolt from the underside of the mower and remove the blade
Step 7: Unscrew the fixings which hold the belt protection guard in place using a screwdriver
Step 8: Remove the old drive belt
Step 9: Replace with the new drive belt, ensuring it is within the pulley
Step 10: Hook the new drive belt around the pulley at the rear of the mower
Step 11: Replace the belt protection guard, screwing it in place with a screwdriver
Step 12: Replace the mower blade (you may require a wrench to do this) to ensure it is secured tightly
Step 13: Turn the mower back up the correct way
Step 14: Replace the spark plug
Step 15: Replace the fuel and oil in the machine
You should only follow these steps if you feel confident doing so. If you need to replace the drive belt on your Mountfield lawn mower, but are unable to do this yourself, always enlist the help of a trusted lawn mower service and maintenance provider.
