How To Change A Lawn Mower Spark Plug

As part of the basic servicing to keep your petrol mower running smoothly, it is recommended that your spark plug is replaced every season for easy starting. If you have your mower serviced by an authorised dealer then this will be part of the work they carry out. If you’re not having a professional service carried out though, this is an easy task you can do yourself at home to give your lawn mower a new lease of life. We’ve put together a short video aout how to change a lawn mower spark plug to show you how it’s done.

You will need:

  • A spark plug spanner
  • A new spark plug (check your manual if you’re not sure which type)

  1. Remove the spark plug cap from your mower
  2. Select the correct size spark plug spanner
  3. Unscrew the spark plug in an anti-clockwise direction
  4. Check that your replacement spark plug is identical to the one that you’ve just removed from the engine
  5. Fit the new plug, screwing in by hand in a clockwise direction
  6. Tighten with a spanner a quarter turn
  7. Finally, refit the spark plug cap
