Even those of us with smaller gardens may find that routine lawn maintenance can become somewhat of a chore, so regardless of your horticultural endowment it is always worth investing in a machine that will make mowing straightforward. Atco’s compact 14E electric rotary lawnmower is precisely one such machine, designed specifically to make keeping your lawn pristine throughout the growing season as simple and stress-free as possible.
Built with a 34cm (13.4”) cutting width and supplied as standard with a generously proportioned 35 litre grass collector, Atco’s 14E electric rotary lawnmower is ideal for the quick and efficient maintenance of lawns of up to 225m2. It is particularly suited for use in towns and other populated areas where noisier petrol equipment can cause unwanted neighbourly strife, with the 14E’s 1400 watt electric motor delivering quiet, clean and economical power to the cutting system. As such you’ll be able to mow without choking on toxic exhaust fumes or having to don ear protectors, while a corded electric mower such as the 14E also offers exceptional convenience by eliminating fuel stops and allowing you to set straight to work.
Unlike some electric lawnmowers, however, Atco’s 14E delivers superb grass cutting flexibility and a truly luxurious finish as well as ease of operation, with three cutting modes available and a rear roller included to produce a neat stripe effect on your lawn as you mow. Of the three cutting modes the one most suited to occasional lawn work is the cut and collection mode, while side-ejection is better suited to clearance of longer grass.
For those who prefer to mow frequently, however, the Atco 14E is also supplied with a mulching plug as standard; once inserted into the ejection chute, this plug enables efficient collection-free mowing, with clippings trapped in the cutting chamber and reduced to miniscule particles before being dropped back down onto the lawn surface. Here the mulched clippings break down and release valuable nutrients and moisture, boosting the health of your lawn as well as saving time and effort otherwise spent on clipping disposal. Furthermore, the tiny clippings produced by mulching are nearly invisible to the naked eye, so no compromise is made on a tidy finish.
The Atco 14E’s adaptability is further enhanced by the inclusion of six-position height of cut adjustment, featuring settings between 25mm and 75mm. Controlled via a single easy-access lever for ease of adjustment, you can therefore quickly set the 14E’s working height to suit the conditions in your garden. When combined with the rear roller, which flattens grass as you mow for a classic striped finish, this ensures an effortlessly immaculate lawn every time.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
