Atco are well known around the world for producing practical and easy to use lawnmowers. Popular among both domestic and professional users, Atco machines are also ergonomically designed for superb ease of use and very aesthetically pleasing.
The 16 E, for example, is a clean and quiet running, mains powered electric four-wheel lawnmower which comes with a mulching option as standard for superb versatility. Powered by a quiet and environmentally friendly 1.8kW electric engine, the 16E is ideal for use in residential areas where a petrol mower would be too noisy to use without causing a ruckus, while also being cheaper to run and easier to service than petrol machines. Moreover, with a 15m-power cable included it is easy enough to reach tucked away parts of small gardens.
With a cutting width of 42cm and a tough rotary cutting blade, the 16E is pleasingly efficient whichever cutting mode you use. However, simply insert the mulching plug into the rear discharge area and you will instantly be able to save time on cutting disposal by recycling clippings; this also provides vital nutrients and moisture for your lawn. If you do wish to collect grass clippings, however, the 16E also features an ample fifty-litre grass bag to reduce the number of stops you will need to make to dispose of clippings, saving vital time and energy in the process.
The 16E is also incredibly easy to manoeuvre around your garden that is due in no small part its incredibly lightweight polypropylene plastic deck (with the machine weighing in at only 14kg in total). Moreover, as it is hand-propelled it is possible to work at your own pace, allowing you to set a rate of work which is comfortable for you and making it easier to navigate around flowerbeds, lawn ornaments and any other obstacles.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
