While an ordinary walk-behind lawnmower is fine for most domestic gardens, when cutting lawns of over an acre the power, comfort and performance provided by a ride-on mower is essential. Power, comfort and performance are certainly qualities that Atco’s GT 36H lawn tractor has in abundance, but the 36H is at least as notable for its ease of use, meaning that even the most inexperienced user can now enjoy the kind of efficient cutting on larger lawns that only a ride-on mower can provide.
With a cutting width of 92cm, and a cutting deck which extends beyond the mower’s wheelbase to allow for easy cutting of borders and edges, the Atco GT 36H is built for efficient maintenance of lawns between one and two acres. The great surface finish offered by this mower is achieved via twin rotary cutting blades, which are engaged and disengaged by the mere flick of a switch thanks to the 36H’s electromagnetic blade engagement system. Furthermore, variable cutting height adjustment (25mm-80mm), controlled via a simple single lever system, means that it is easy to adapt the mower to suit the conditions of the lawn you are mowing.
At the heart of this impressive machine is a powerful 500cc Briggs & Stratton Powerbuilt 4165 AVS petrol engine, built to be long-lasting, fuel efficient and quiet running, and featuring electric key starting for instant performance. Perhaps even more impressive is the GT 36H’s hydrostatic transmission, which allows for infinitely subtle speed variation up to 8.8km/h. Hydrostatic transmission is also much simpler to use than manual transmission, as it eliminates the need to change gear in order to change speed; rather, the forward speed is controlled by simply depressing the front section of the control pedal to a greater or lesser extent, while reverse gear is selected by depressing the pedal’s rear section.
The GT 36H also comes with a 260 litre rear-mounted grass collector, which features a buzzer to let you know when the collector is full and can be emptied from the driver’s seat for efficient clipping disposal. And with a five year warranty also included as standard, you can be certain that Atco’s GT 36H lawn tractor will be able to offer effective and convenient mowing performance for years to come.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
