While most lawnmowers are equipped with a grass collector to gather clippings as you mow, others dispense with this option entirely. Atco’s GT 38H is one such mower; a dedicated mulching lawn tractor designed to make mowing larger lawns quick, simple and hassle free.
Rather than collecting grass clippings which then have to be disposed of later, mulching mowers recycle cuttings by dicing them up finely and blowing them deep into the roots of your lawn. Here the mulched clippings return vital nutrients and moisture to the soil, ensuring that your lawn will grow thick, green and healthy in the future. Moreover, as the fine clippings are returned to the very base of the lawn they are nigh on invisible, leaving your garden looking neat and tidy, and as mulching eliminates the need to intermittently stop and dispose of clippings it also makes the GT 38H far more efficient that many other similar ride-on mowers.
The lack of a grass collector also makes the mower more compact, enhancing maneovrability and making it easier to mow in tight or intricate parts of your garden. This, in addition to user-friendly hydrostatic transmission which allows for infinitely fine forward and reverse speed adjustment controlled via a single pedal, makes the GT 38H simple and pleasurable to operate in a manner you perhaps would not expect from a ride-on lawnmower. And as power is supplied by a fuel-efficient and long lasting Briggs & Stratton Powerbuilt 3130 AVS petrol engine with electric key starting, you can be assured of years of efficient mowing service.
With a cutting width of 98cm and centralised cutting height adjustment (25mm-80mm), the GT 38H is perfect for mowing lawns between one and two and a half acres in size and can handle a range of grass conditions. The GT 38H also features a side discharge option, for use in grass which is too long for mulching to be effective, further adding to the versatility of this fantastic machine and making it an ideal choice for anyone looking for an efficient solution to achieving a great finish on larger lawns.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
