Among the biggest and toughest ride-on lawnmowers produced by Atco, the GT 40H Twin is a heavy duty mower designed for heavy duty jobs, easily capable of handling lawns between two and three acres in size. Remarkably, as well as providing efficient and effective cutting on large lawns, the GT 40H Twin remains easy and comfortable to operate, largely thanks to the engineering ingenuity of the good people at Atco.
Fully hydrostatic transmission, for example, allows you to subtly alter the speed of the mower without having to worry about manually changing gears; by simply depressing the front section of the control pedal you can accelerate up to 8.8km/h, while depressing the rear section of the pedal allows you to transition smoothly into reverse gear. This finely tuned speed control also makes the mower more manoeuvrable, providing extra control when circumnavigating obstacles or trees. Also featuring electric key starting for added convenience, the GT 40H Twin is powered by an efficient 656cc Briggs & Stratton Intek 7180 V-Twin petrol engine, built to be long-lasting, quiet running and ultra reliable.
The GT 40H Twin also features an imposing cutting width of 102cm which reaches beyond the wheel base to allow for hassle-free cutting of edges and borders, with twin contra-rotating blades which overlap to ensure total ground coverage. Ease of operation is ensured by electromagnetic cutting blade engagement, allowing cutting to be activated at the flick of a switch, and seven-position centralised cutting height adjustment (30mm-90mm) makes the GT 40H Twin capable of performing in a range of grass conditions.
Clippings are blown into a massive 300 litre grass collector via the mower’s rear discharge outlet. This hi-tech collector is designed with convenience in mind and features a buzzer which sounds to let you know when it reaches capacity, and can also be emptied from the comfort of the driver’s seat to allow for super efficient clipping disposal. This tough and hard working lawn tractor is therefore perfect for making light work of even the most imposing mowing tasks, and will leave you more than satisfied with your lawn.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
