With more than ninety years of accumulated technical expertise at the collective fingers of Atco’s world renowned engineers, you know that when they really push the mowing envelope you are going to be looking at a premium quality piece of garden machinery. Such is the GT 48H Twin, the flagship model in Atco’s garden tractor range, which not only provides consistently excellent mowing results, but remains comfortable and simple to operate as it does so.
Built with a colossal 122cm cutting width, ideal for mowing the largest lawns (up to five acres), the GT 48H Twin is a true giant in the world of ride-on lawnmowers. Despite this, however, the GT 48H Twin is also very easy to drive and manoeuvre, not least thanks to the inclusion of fully hydrostatic transmission. This makes the GT 48H Twin far easier to operate by eliminating the need to switch between fiddly gears manually, and provides for infinitely subtle speed adjustment controlled via a foot pedal. Powering this drive system is a fuel-efficient 656cc Briggs & Stratton Intek 7180 V-Twin petrol engine; this twin cylinder engine is engineered to be long-lasting and quiet running, and features electric key starting for instant mowing performance.
Further convenience is offered by the centralised height of cut adjustment (30mm-90mm), which allows you to select from between seven pre-set cutting height positions quickly and easily, as well as the electromagnetic cutting blade engagement system, providing instant cutting at the flick of a single switch. The cutting system itself features two contra-rotating blades which overlap to ensure total coverage and a fine finish, while the cutting deck also extends beyond the mower’s wheel base to allow for easy clipping of borders and edges. With the inclusion of a massive 320 litre rear-mounted grass collector, easily emptied from the comfort of the driver’s seat for efficient clipping disposal, Atco’s hard wearing and hard working GT 48H Twin lawn tractor is undeniably a mower capable of excelling in every respect.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
