Life can be remarkably complicated sometimes, passing us by in a haze of noise, colours and angry letters from the tax man. The last thing you need is for your garden to become another source of complications, rather than a place you can go to relax and escape the unending tedium of real life. However, some lawnmowers will struggle to achieve decent results on larger or complex lawns, which can make even routine lawn maintenance unnecessarily stressful. And if this plight sound familiar what you need is Atco’s Quattro 19SE 4-in-1, a four-wheeled rotary lawnmower designed to make mowing reassuringly effortless from the moment you set to work.
Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a big difference in this respect. Electric key starting, for example, might not sound much on paper but in practice it can save a surprising amount of time, effort and hassle. This is because turning a key is much more straightforward than tugging at a recoil starter, especially for those who find using a recoil pull physically challenging. As such you will be able to get the Quattro 19SE 4-in-1 up and running in a matter of moments, its powerful 175cc Briggs & Stratton 775 series four-stroke engine purring to itself as you begin your day’s mowing.
This hardworking engine serves a dual role, powering both the Quattro 19SE 4-in-1’s self-propulsion system and the cutting equipment. The self-propulsion system is particularly noteworthy in the user convenience stakes, offering a steady forward speed of 3.6km/h to drive the Quattro 19SE 4-in-1 forward. This helps to ensure an even finish, but more importantly it also makes mowing in on larger or undulating lawns far less tiring by doing the hard work for you. Alongside a 48cm (19”) cutting width and the inclusion of a hard-topped 70 litre canvas grass collector, this makes the Quattro 19SE capable of maintaining lawns up to 1600m2 in size.
The four-in-one cutting system is similarly convenient, allowing you to quickly adapt the Quattro 19SE 4-in-1 for mowing in various grass conditions. In addition to traditional cut and collection, for example, the Quattro 19SE can be set to either side or rear discharge mode for quick clearance of longer, rougher areas of grass. Mulching, meanwhile, also offers collection-free mowing but with a tidier finish, with the clippings reduced to tiny fragments and ejected onto the lawn as a natural fertiliser. This means that you can boost the health of your lawn at the same time as conducting routine maintenance, while the inclusion of a front skid plate to minimise scalping and centralised six-position cutting height adjustment (featuring settings between 26mm and 72mm) further boosts the quality of finish you will achieve.
This versatility is underlined by the Quattro 19SE 4-in-1’s extraordinary manoeuvrability and smooth-running wheels, which together enable effective cutting and transportation even over uneven terrain. In addition to this the Quattro 19SE 4-in-1 incorporates a variety of handy ergonomic features to make life even easier, such as a hose inlet (allowing you to clean the cutter deck in a matter of moments) and a safety-enhancing Operator Presence Control system (which automatically shuts off the engine when the handlebar is released). And with a durable steel chassis and a five year manufacturer’s warranty included as standard, Atco’s Quattro 19SE 4-in-1 is more than capable of providing years of dependable performance. If only everything in life could be so simple.

In 1921 the first 900 petrol-powered Atco lawnmowers rolled off the production line at the Atco mowers factory in Birmingham and were delivered, believe it or not, by a man on a motorcycle with a specially developed side-car for transportation of these heavy machines. Things have moved on a little since then for Atco mowers, but one thing remains the same — the quality of the Atco mowers and products is as good as it ever was, and even though they expanded into different areas of the garden machinery market, it is their cylinder mowers that they are best know for. The Atco name is synonymous with the British gardening scene and the company has been awarded two Royal Warrants, the first in 1955 from Queen Elizabeth II and again in 1986, this time from HRH The Prince Of Wales.
Robert Bosch GmbH acquired Atco-Qualcast Ltd in 1995 and this brought a modern approach to the manufacturing process with the cylinder mowers that the company is famous for changing tremendously, becoming more light-weight with a marked increase in usability and performance; the introduction of the now famous QX Quick Exchange Cassette System, for instance, allows gardeners to change their lawn application needs without changing machine. Not happy with manufacturing the highest quality products, Atco leads the way in environmental compliance, being the first garden machinery manufacturer to be awarded the environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001.
