Bertolini describes the 403 semi-professional rotary cultivator as a “reliable workmate for tackling everyday jobs”. But what does one look for in a reliable workmate? How about practicality, industry, dependability, stamina and a willingness to lend large sums of money without interest? Well the 403 has the first four of these qualities in abundance, and since it has been built to last a lifetime you will definitely get your money’s worth out of this fine piece of kit (even if it won’t be able to loan you any cash at short notice).

Powered by a hardworking, hi-tech 196cc Honda GX200 four-stroke petrol engine designed for high output performance and optimal fuel efficiency, the 403’s traditional recoil starter and automatic mechanical de-compression system work together to make starting consistently hassle-free. This powerful engine is complemented by the inclusion of a four-speed gearbox with two forward and two reverse gears, thus ensuring complete control and optimal performance regardless of the job at hand (when preparing soil, for example, a slower speed allows the tiller to properly incorporate the sod or cover crop present without overworking the soil).

This particular model is supplied as standard with a 60cm tiller attachment, with individually removable rotary blades and an adjustable rotor control allowing you to adjust the working width/height to suit the soil conditions underfoot. This in itself makes the 403 impressively versatile, but with a wide range of optional accessories also available (including a brush attachment, a plough and a snow blade) there are any number of tasks for which you can equip the 403 to ensure super year-round practicality. Furthermore, with a clever QuickFit system in place you can rest assured of supreme convenience when switching between accessories.

The 403 also boasts cleverly designed height- and width-adjustable handlebars which offer easy access to all controls (including the power take-off lever) and can be reversed 180° to accommodate the currently attached accessory. Additional user-friendly features include a vibration-dampening system for added comfort during operation, large high-grip wheels for all terrain performance and even wheel track adjustment for extra stability in hilly areas, so the most demanding tasks will be much easier with this superb machine at your fingertips. Moreover, with a cast iron engine cylinder, oil-immersed gears and a protective engine cowling all ensuring outstanding durability, Bertolini’s 403 is capable of offering many, many years of brilliantly dependable service.

About Bertolini
Bertolini was founded in 1953, at first producing pumps for the agricultural industry, and a year later expanded their range to include a mower, the Bertolini BFR 54. With their reputation for quality firmly established Bertolini went on to produce a range of cultivators and tillers that became the standard tool for the market gardeners and vineyard owners of the Mediterranean hillsides, favoured due to their outstanding durability in the hot and dusty conditions. Bertolini wheel tractor units gained a reputation as flexible and easy to use on rough terrain.

These cultivators became indispensable tools. It wasn't long before customers were asking for bespoke machinery to suit their particular horticultural needs, a demand that Bertolini were happy to answer until it became economically impossible to continue as manufacturing costs began to soar. More recently, the Emak Group acquired the Bertolini brand and since November 2008 awareness of the large range of tillers, cultivators, scythe cutter bar mowers, flail mowers and transporters has increased dramatically with the demand for their two-wheeled tractor units growing at-a-pace. The range of products available in the U.K. is still slightly limited, but with a rapid increase of interest in their excellent equipment, the Bertolini range of horticultural machinery is here to stay.
