A few years ago Bill Gates – the well-known Microsoft billionaire and captain of industry – wrote an article for Scientific American called “A Robot in Every Home”. Therein the absurdly rich Gates predicted that we were “on the verge of a new era” in which a “new generation of autonomous devices” would allow “computers to perform tasks in the physical world on our behalf”. Whether this prediction extended to the garden or not Mr. Gates doesn’t say, but if it does then we can give him a big pat on the pack for his cleverness because Bosch’s Indego range of automatic lawnmowers definitely fit the domestic robot bill.
The Bosch Indego 800 is the baby of the Indego range, with a 26cm (10”) width of cut enabling efficient maintenance of smaller lawns between 20m² and 800m². But regardless of size this compact robotic lawnmower will do a fantastic job of automatically trimming the grass in your garden, allowing you to concentrate on other projects (or to just kick back and watch the little guy at work, if you prefer). It can do this thanks to an array of sensitive collision sensors and Bosch’s clever “Logicut” system, which maps out your garden so that the Indego 800 can calculate an optimal mowing route. This boosts efficiency by up to 30% compared to a random mowing pattern, while also ensuring that no patch of grass is missed or overworked (though a random mowing pattern is also available if you prefer).
The result of this hi-tech system is that the Indego 800 will patrol your garden cutting the grass a little at a time (like having a flock of sheep to nibble at your lawn but without all the hasslesome shepherding this would require), thereby eliminating the need to push a heavy lawnmower around. Equipped with three pivoting blades, the Indego 800 even mulches grass clippings to recycle them as a natural fertiliser. The inclusion of ten cutting height settings ranging from 20mm to 60mm, meanwhile, allows you to quickly adapt the Indego 800 for a precise finish. This exceptional little machine is therefore just as good for your lawn’s wellbeing as it is outstandingly convenient, saving significant time and effort on routine mowing without sacrificing on results.
Powered by a hi-tech 32.4V/3.0Ah lithium-ion battery pack, the Indego 800 will even automatically return to its docking station to recharge when the battery runs low. And with up to fifty minutes run time on only fifty minutes charge this process is pleasingly efficient, allowing your little robot buddy to work to a schedule that suits you. All that you need to do is set out the area within which you want the Indego 800 to work using the supplied perimeter wire, then program in your preferred options using the clear LCD display (excitingly described by Bosch as a “Human Machine Interface”, which sounds a bit like it could be the title of an unreleased Gary Numan album from the late 1980s).
Another advantage of battery power is that the Indego 800 is far cleaner and quieter running than any petrol lawnmower, making it perfect for use in residential or urban areas where noisy petrol equipment is likely to cause a disturbance. Attention has also been paid to the safety features on the Indego 800, with a cutting system which automatically stops when the machine is lifted and a highly visible emergency stop button on the top of the chassis. Likewise, security is assured by the inclusion of a PIN code and alarm system to protect your robot mower from theft. All of these features further enhance the fantastic user convenience that Bosch’s Indego 800 offers, so for a truly effortless mowing experience and a beautifully pristine lawn the Indego 800 is a brilliant taste of the future.
