A tree surgeon might not be the first person you’d call were you suffering severe appendicitis, but likewise when trees become damaged, overgrown or otherwise require a little maintenance you’d be disappointed if a bloke wearing scrubs turned up holding a scalpel. Somewhat more impressive than a scalpel, especially if you are going to be performing a bit of tree surgery, is Efco’s 132S 12” top-handle pruning chainsaw. Designed to be compact yet powerful, as well as tough and user-friendly, the 132S has been built specifically for professional pruning and cutting of medium-sized branches both at ground level and at heights.
It is, of course, important than any pruning chainsaw is light and portable enough to enable access to hard to reach branches, and at only 3.4kg (without bar and chain) the 132S fits the bill nicely in this regard. To further ensure manoeuvrability the 132S also features a top-handle design to enhance handling, along with a special belt hook to ensure maximum freedom of movement when working on uneven ground or attempting to reach otherwise inaccessible branches. An effective anti-vibration system, moreover, makes the 132S even easier to use and ensures excellent performance at any working angle, which is especially useful when taking on challenging pruning work.
Despite its modest size the 132S still packs quite an impressive punch, with power supplied via an efficient 30.1cc two-stroke petrol engine. Designed to be environmentally friendly, this low emission engine nevertheless produces a maximum power output of 1.2kW at up to 10,600rpm and a high cutting speed which helps to produce a clean, precise cut that prevents damage to the bark. To make the most of this power the 132S is fitted as standard with a sturdy 30cm (12”) guide bar and a 3/8” x .050” (pitch x gauge) chain, while an automatic oil pump regulates chain lubrication to ensure consistently excellent performance (as well as preventing the flow while the engine is idling).
Furthermore, as with all Efco tools, the 132S is reassuringly solid and built with only high quality components for exceptional durability and a longer service life. A variety of other handy features are also included to further improve reliability; an easy to remove filter cover, for example, facilitates routine maintenance, while the two-stage nylon air filter protects the engine to prevent power loss when working in dusty environments. All of this means that Efco’s 132S is a truly professional quality piece of kit, more than able to withstand the demands of frequent intensive use in a variety of environments (this chainsaw must be used only for tree surgery by certified tree surgeons).
