Chainsaws have a multitude of uses. Actually, that’s not entirely true as chainsaws are mostly just used for cutting things. Even then, with the exception of a few ice sculptors, chainsaws are primarily used for cutting wood. Husqvarna’s 3120XP is even more limited in terms of the scope of its application, as it is a dedicated rear handle felling saw designed specifically for the most challenging forestry work in the toughest cutting conditions. One of the most powerful saws in the world, you would not, for example, be well advised to use the 3120XP for chopping firewood, DIY or other light household tasks. If, however, you are looking to cut down a very large tree, the 3120XP is just the machine you are looking for. It is, after all, very, very good at cutting things.
“What makes this saw so good at cutting things then?”, I hear you ask! Shall we start with its mighty 118.8cc two-stroke petrol engine? By some distance the most powerful engine used in any of Husqvarna’s many chainsaws, the 3120XP is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 6.2kW at an impressive 9,000RPM. This, along with a top chain speed of 20.1m/s, allows the 3120XP to cut through tough material with ease, saving significant time and effort when felling larger trees compared to less powerful machines. For added convenience, moreover, the 3120XP also features a Smart Start® system (which reduces starter cord resistance by up to 40%) and a high capacity 1.25 litre fuel tank which allows you to work for longer without having to stop and refuel. Available as standard with either a 91cm (36”) or 106cm (42”) guide bar and a heavy duty .404” pitch chain (please call or e-mail to specify the preferred bar/chain combination for your order), the 3120XP would be the saw you want by your side were you attempting to take down a rainforest. Even if your ambitions are slightly more limited than this, this potent saw is perfect for any intensive cutting work which demands a machine capable of running a longer bar, with exceptional results every time ensured by the inclusion of an adjustable oil pump to regulate chain lubrication.
Fitted with an effective inertia-activated chain brake to protect against hazardous kickback events, the 3120XP is also a surprisingly user-friendly machine given its immense power. The ergonomically designed handles, intuitive controls and innovative LowVib® anti-vibration system, for example, work together to ensure complete comfort and outstanding ease of operation, even over prolonged periods of use. A well-balanced design, moreover, means that the 3120XP handles excellently, while features such as the quick-release air filter and cover help to facilitate routine maintenance and cleaning for reassuring long term reliability. All of this, of course, makes cutting stuff that little bit easier, thus further enhancing the 3120XP’s aforementioned status as a machine which is very, very good at cutting things.
Finally, as this is a machine designed for tackling the very toughest forestry work, sturdiness is a must. This is why the 3120XP is constructed with a forged three-piece crankshaft and a durable magnesium crankcase, providing excellent protection against impact, abrasion and corrosion for a longer lasting, more dependable service life. Few saws, then, are better suited to challenging cutting in hostile conditions, and any professional forester/arboriculturalist would do well to have a saw like this to hand when felling the largest trees. In summary, and if you take anything away from reading this, please remember the following; Husqvarna’s 3120XP is really very, very, very good at cutting things.

About HusqvarnaBelieve it or not, Husqvarna did not start off by manufacturing any type of garden machinery at all. Instead they were established in 1689 as a weapons foundry supplying the Swedish Armed Forces. During the subsequent years, diverse and varied products have been produced, from sewing machines and cast iron kitchen equipment through to bicycles and motorbikes. It wasn't until 1959 that Husqvarna finally made its first chainsaws and engine-driven lawnmowers. The company's reputation for build quality and durability of product has never been in question. This is probably the reason for their line of professional petrol chainsaws being so popular with forestry workers across the globe.
Husqvarna are not afraid to innovate either, introducing the robotic, solar powered Automower® in 1995 and continually looking to improve their existing products by listening to their customers. Jumping onto the grass recycling bandwagon, they also manufacture some of the best mulching lawnmowers available, incorporating Bioclip® technology into the vast majority of their petrol lawn mowers. Be left in no doubt, if you buy any product from the Husqvarna garden machinery stable, you will be buying into Swedish quality that is built to last.
