At the 30th edition of the prestigious World Logging Championship, held in Belarus in front of a baying crowd of 3,500 people, 111 contestants from 28 countries battled to earn the title of the world’s best chainsaw operator. Eventually, after three days of intense competition over a number of events Alexandr Sokolov of Russia won the gold medal, with Jukka Perämäki of Finland and Urs Amstutz of Switzerland claiming silver and bronze respectively. What all three of these men have in common, however, is that they were all using Husqvarna’s superb 576XP AT, a professional grade rear handle chainsaw designed for tough forestry work and one of the most advanced saws in Husqvarna’s range.
Clearly there must be something special about the 576XP AT if the three best chainsaw operators in the world choose to use it for one of the toughest logging competitions around. Shall we begin with its superbly powerful 73.5cc X-Torq® two-stroke petrol engine? Husqvarna’s X-Torq® technology optimises the combustion process to increase torque and boost performance, so the 576XP AT will power through tough material with ease and offers great efficiency whether you are felling, de-limbing or logging. On top of this, by burning fuel more completely this engine also increases fuel efficiency by up to 20% and reduces harmful emissions by around 75%, thus offering exceptional user-friendliness in addition to enviable cutting performance. The impressive efficiency of this machine means that you can work for longer on a single tank of petrol, and with a high capacity 0.7 litre fuel tank the 576XP AT can therefore save a lot of time and effort otherwise spent on refuelling.
Available as standard with a 45cm (18”), 50cm (20”) or 60cm (24”) guide bar and a 3/8” pitch chain (please call or e-mail to specify the preferred bar/chain combination for your order), another of the 576XP AT’s many practical features is its intelligently designed AutoTune system. This works by automatically optimising engine performance according to the working/atmospheric conditions at hand, quickly responding to factors such as the fuel mix being used, temperature, humidity, and the altitude at which you are working. Between this, the easy-access side-mounted chain tensioner, and the adjustable oil pump, you can therefore rest assured of consistently outstanding performance regardless of the job at hand. An effective inertia-activated chain brake, moreover, offers vital protection against dangerous kickback events.
To further ensure dependable performance and a long service life, the 576XP AT also features an easy-access snap-lock cylinder cover, a quick-release air filter and a centrifugal air cleaning system, which together facilitate routine maintenance and significantly reduce overall servicing demands. A forged three-piece crankshaft and a sturdily built magnesium crankcase, meanwhile, provide excellent resistance against the bumps, knocks and scrapes inevitably incurred during heavy duty cutting work. It’s important that such a powerful saw is also easy to handle, of course, and the 576XP AT’s compact, well-balanced design and ergonomic features take this into account. The improved handle design, for example, includes an angled front handle and an asymmetrical rear handle with a soft inlay to help ensure a secure grip and complete control at all times, while Husqvarna’s LowVib® anti-vibration system ensures comfortable operation and helps to prevent fatigue during prolonged use.
Even the little touches make a big difference. The felling marks on the casing, for instance, provide a little bit of helpful guidance for greater precision when cutting down trees, and the Smart Start® system and the combined choke/stop control work to ensure trouble-free starting and to prevent the engine from flooding. Husqvarna’s 576XP AT, then, is not only a supremely powerful logging saw (as used by world champions), but also easy to use and manoeuvre and so undoubtedly able to make life easier for even the most experienced chainsaw operator.
