Larger gardens inevitably require a fair amount of work if you want to keep your lawn looking its best. As such, it makes sense to invest in a mower which will not only make cutting your lawn an eminently manageable task, but which is also comfortable, easy to use and versatile enough to remove any possible source of hassle. Thankfully, this is a belief shared by the engineers at Husqvarna, made manifest in the tough but agile R 318 rider mower.
Built with a powerful 500cc Briggs & Stratton Endurance Series petrol engine, designed exclusively for Husqvarna mowers, the R 318 also features a simple, pedal operated hydrostatic transmission system with an impressive top speed of 9.0km/h. The infinitely variable speed control offered by this drive system makes it much easier to navigate edges and obstacles in gardens, especially given the outstanding maneouvrability provided by the mower’s pivoting rear axle and Husqvarna’s unique articulated steering system.
Available in one of three different sizes depending on your requirements (94cm, 103cm or 112cm), the R 318’s cutting deck features a floating, front mounted design which helps prevent scalping and makes it easy to reach grass in otherwise inaccessible corners of your garden. For added convenience and precision, the R 318 also features blades which engage automatically when you lower the cutting deck, as well as ten step height of cut adjustment (25mm-75mm) controlled via an easily accessible lever.
Moreover, all of Husqvarna’s combi decks feature two distinct cutting options: BioClip® grass mulching and efficient rear ejection. When used for mulching, the deck will cut grass repeatedly before returning the remaining particles to the lawn as a natural fertiliser, leaving a tidy finish and promoting healthy lawn growth. Rear ejection, meanwhile, is perfect for handling longer, rougher areas of grass, and easily activated by simply removing the deck’s back panel. This outstanding versatility is further improved thanks to the R 318’s clever attachment frame, which makes it easy to switch between the cutting deck and a wide range of front mounted accessories, including a powered broom and a snow thrower (available separately).
The R 318 is also astonishingly easy to use. A durable reinforced frame and easily accessible service points for routine maintenance, for example, help ensure that the R 318 will provide years of reliable service, while a digital service indicator will let you know when the mower next needs a tune up. Furthermore, with a comfortable, high seating position seat for enhanced visibility and large wheels which help stabilise the machine during operation, the R 318 offers comfort and convenience to match its durability. It is, in short, pretty much everything you could possibly need to make maintaining a medium to large lawn a quick, simple and enjoyable experience.

About HusqvarnaBelieve it or not, Husqvarna did not start off by manufacturing any type of garden machinery at all. Instead they were established in 1689 as a weapons foundry supplying the Swedish Armed Forces. During the subsequent years, diverse and varied products have been produced, from sewing machines and cast iron kitchen equipment through to bicycles and motorbikes. It wasn't until 1959 that Husqvarna finally made its first chainsaws and engine-driven lawnmowers. The company's reputation for build quality and durability of product has never been in question. This is probably the reason for their line of professional petrol chainsaws being so popular with forestry workers across the globe.
Husqvarna are not afraid to innovate either, introducing the robotic, solar powered Automower® in 1995 and continually looking to improve their existing products by listening to their customers. Jumping onto the grass recycling bandwagon, they also manufacture some of the best mulching lawnmowers available, incorporating Bioclip® technology into the vast majority of their petrol lawn mowers. Be left in no doubt, if you buy any product from the Husqvarna garden machinery stable, you will be buying into Swedish quality that is built to last.
