Consumer cars are often laden with all sorts of user-friendly features designed to make driving a little more luxurious, ranging from iPod docks to heated cushions to in-car entertainment systems. None of these, however, actually make the car go any faster and you are unlikely to find any of them in a car designed for speed, where performance is the be-all and end-all. In this respect, at least, Kawasaki’s KHT600S is to most commercially available hedgetrimmers what a Formula One car is to your average family estate; designed, engineered and built with pure performance in mind, the KHT600S is a powerful yet lightweight professional hedgetrimmer designed for the quick and efficient trimming, thinning and shaping of dense hedgerows, bushes and shrubs.
Similar to Kawasaki’s KHT600D but without many of the optional bells and whistles sported by that model, the KHT600S provides a more streamlined (and economical) method of keeping hedges and other dense vegetation suitably tidied and well trimmed. The principle advantage of this pared back design is that the overall weight of the KHT600S is only 4.8kg, making it the lightest hedgetrimmer in Kawasaki’s range. Along with the machine’s anti-vibration handles, which are soft enough to ensure comfort while retaining a high degree of rigidity to prevent unwanted lateral blade movement, this makes the KHT600S spectacularly easy to handle and thus ensures a pleasingly accurate cut. As such there are few hedgetrimmers more effective when cutting complicated or unusually shaped hedgerows than this little beast right here.
Equally impressive is the KHT600S’s hardworking 22.5cc Kawasaki TH23 two-stroke petrol engine, built with an auto-choke and a KAR (Kawasaki Advanced Recoil) starting system to help ensure that no time is lost with fiddly starting before you set to work. The KAR system is particularly handy, significantly reducing the effort required to use the recoil start, while a generously sized 0.5 litre fuel tank further saves time by reducing the frequency with which you will have to stop and refuel. Built to professional standards for a long working life and superb reliability, the KHT600S features only the highest quality components, including a one-piece forged clutch drum, needle bearings on the connecting rod, double ball bearings on the gears and camshafts, a heavy duty commercial gear case and a commercial grade air filter.
The pièce de résistance of this fine machine, however, is undoubtedly its potent 58.7cm double-sided reciprocating blade. Precision engineered with closely fitted upper and lower cutting edges for a truly immaculate finish, this blade runs closer and faster than those of most conventional hedgetrimmers. This further contributes to the superb accuracy of cut you can achieve with the KHT600S, and with either a three year professional warranty or a five year domestic warranty also offered as standard you can therefore be assured of complete satisfaction and magnificent results whether you are a serious home user or a gardening professional looking for a machine suited to the rigors of heavy duty landscaping work.

About KawasakiKawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd is truly a manufacturing Behemoth, a Leviathan of industry, a commercial Titan with which few can compare, a… well, you get the idea. They’re pretty big. In addition to high quality powered horticultural tools, Kawasaki’s product lines include the following (take a deep breath now); space systems, flight simulators, jet engines, missiles, rolling stock, oil tankers, submarines, wind turbines, nuclear power plant equipment, industrial plants, robots, water treatment systems, motorcycles, cars, construction machinery, steel bridges and jet skis.
However, it is worth noting that few companies become a globe-straddling, Brobdingnagian enterprise of this kind without sharing Kawasaki’s dedication to innovation, customer service and brilliant engineering. It is this longstanding tradition of producing clever, effective and efficient machinery which has led professional gardeners and landscapers across the world to select Kawasaki machines as their tools of choice when faced with heavy duty horticultural work.
Kawasaki’s current manufacturing empire has relatively humble roots in the form of a man named Shz Kawasaki. The son of a kimono merchant, Shz Kawasaki was born in 1837 and became a tradesman at the age of 17 in Nagasaki. He later started a shipping business in Osaka at 27, but it failed when his cargo ship sank during a storm. Despite this seeming setback, it was in fact Shz Kawasaki’s unfortunate familiarity with sea accidents (of which he experienced many during his life) that lay down the foundations for the Kawasaki company’s later success. This is because Kawasaki came to admire Western ships during his life at sea, which were typically more spacious, stable and faster than Japanese ships, and when Kawasaki established the Kawasaki Tsukiji Shipyard in Tokyo in 1878 he pioneered in the introduction of modern shipbuilding techniques in Japan.
Eighteen years later, in 1896, the Kawasaki Tsukiji Shipyard was incorporated as Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Ltd and the company has been growing and blazing all kinds of trails ever since. Given Kawasaki’s expertise in creating powerful, environmentally friendly and efficient engines it made perfect sense for the company to introduce its own range of power tools, including a variety of commercial grade blowers, brushcutters and hedgetrimmers. These tools all benefit from Kawasaki’s characteristic commitment to quality, durability and long-lasting performance, making them perfect for busy professionals who need machines capable of tackling heavy workloads while producing superior results.
